Eel River
We recently drove up to Standish-Hickey State Park to do some swimming in the Eel River. The park ranger at the gate warned us to carry everything down the hill to the river, because it was a long hike up a steep hill to come back. We ignored his advice, thinking that we're young enough and fit enough to walk up a hill. Boy, was that ever a mistake. We hiked down to check out the swimming hole, then hiked back to the car half mile straight up hill in our flip flops to get our swimming gear. Still, it was a lovely day swimming in the Eel River. I walked upstream to find the most photogenic spots in the river. Something bit my foot twice, but I took the photo that inspired this painting.
